Between the cement and the substances used for filling, as a rule, no reaction occurs, therefore they are called inert materials. But it is they that affect the structure and characteristics of concrete, varying the porosity, the speed of hardening, reducing the consequences when exposed to a large weight or environment. Aggregates increase the service life of concrete by reducing its tendency to warp, which facilitates their use in the erection of tall buildings or structures.
Aggregates are usually waste products, so they help to reduce the cost of producing this type of concrete.
